North American energy companies spent over $24.5 billion on water and water-related services in 2017. To address these costs, the oil and gas industry has long supported water reuse, with similar direction from regulators. However, water sharing has been difficult due to a combination of regulatory challenges and lack of information on actual sharing opportunities. HubH2O is a Calgary-based water intelligence company that works with energy producers and service companies to address challenges with compliance, cost and availability of water (www.HubH2O.com). HubH2O’s new tool, the WaterShare, helps solve water availability challenges by making sharing opportunities visible for everyone involved in water management. Quite simply, the free web-based tool connects those who need water with those who have water to give. WaterShare helps operators overcome the significant hurdle of visualizing water availability without the manual and time-consuming process of seeking out available volumes and the corresponding contacts. The simple map-based format allows operators to identify sharing opportunities quickly, and understand basics such as the water type, expected timing and estimated volume. Historically, water reuse has lowered fresh water requirements and disposal costs for oil and gas operations. The map-based WaterShare will make it easier for operators to connect, share resources, […]
