In the end, the update that was due to be delivered within 48 hours took more like 264. But, on Friday morning, Everton supporters finally received an answer to the question over the future of chairman Bill Kenwright, and in addition the short-term shape of the club’s board. Given that many have protested and campaigned for a complete clean slate and for Kenwright to depart, the response they received may not have been entirely welcome. Instead of following chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale, finance director Grant Ingles and non-executive director Graeme Sharp out of the door, it was revealed that Kenwright will remain as chairman, for now at least — and he is to be joined by some names old and new. The forthcoming investment from the New York-based MSP Sports Capital fund may alter the landscape of Everton’s hierarchy once again, and far more dramatically, sooner rather than later.
