Ward 6 Councillor Daniel LeBlanc said the hate he’s received online has largely died down following his proposed amendment to restrict oil and gas producers from advertising with the city. During his brief time on city council, Daniel LeBlanc has attracted the ire of the oil industry and Saskatchewan’s premier. Coun. LeBlanc (Ward 6) recently moved a motion to amend the City’s sponsorship, naming rights and advertising policy . The amendment — which passed 7-4 in executive committee but was shot down in council — would have restricted the city from accepting applications for naming rights, advertisements and sponsorships to any group “whose business is principally derived from the sale or production of fossil fuels.” “I have been getting a lot of sh-t online,” said LeBlanc in an interview Thursday. The amendment angered Premier Scott Moe, some members of the oil and gas industry, local citizens and others. The premier, at one point, dangled the possibility of yanking $33.3 million from the city in provincial dollars should the amendment pass.
