Image: University of Calgary A key R&D centre for Canada’s oil and gas industry will be converted into the new Life Sciences Innovation Hub at the University of Calgary. The U of C announced it is purchasing Shell Technology Centre Calgary on Tuesday. The facility has operated in the University Research Park for three decades. Earlier this month the U of C announced it is purchasing the University Research Park from the province in a deal valued at $97 million. Over the years the Shell facility has made award-winning breakthroughs including improving yields in oilsands processing using paraffinic froth treatment. Scientists also worked on innovations in sour gas, transportation fuels and chemicals.
